Safety Abroad Orientation

Preparing to stay safe and healthy is key to a successful experience abroad. The U-M Safety Abroad orientation walks you through important travel strategies, including risk assessment, situational awareness, and handling emergency situations. The orientation content is based on authentic U-M student experiences.  The student stories are intentionally thought provoking and illustrate both positive and negative behaviors in order to challenge cultural stereotypes and help you critically reflect on your own travel preparation.

There are 5 lessons in this orientation and each takes an average of 15 minutes to complete. For each lesson, you will watch a 10-minute video and complete a short quiz to test your knowledge. You may take the lessons in any order you choose and do not have to finish all lessons in one sitting. You can complete a lesson, save your work, and return at another time.

Please note that in order to receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete lessons 1-5. Once you finish all lessons, your certificate can be accessed by clicking Certificate of Completion in the left sidebar. Some U-M units sponsoring student travel require proof of completion. If you are in doubt, please contact the U-M unit sponsoring your travel.
